Beer Review: Young's Double Chocolate Stout

Overall 8.8/10 - Young’s Double Chocolate Stout is a delicious chocolate and malty flavored beer that I would go out of my way to purchase. It is brewed in Bedford, UK with 5.20% ABV.

Appearance: 1.75/2.0 - Young’s Double Chocolate Stout has a caramel head that has amazing head retention and lacing. The head protrudes so beautifully that it resembles clouds or whipped topping. The body is a dark brown and nearly black.

Smell: 1.5/2.0 - There is a strong mocha and chocolate scent with slightly metallic notes. The smell is not overwhelming or floral. As the beer warms the smells become more vibrant.

Taste: 3.9/4.0 - There is a strong mocha and chocolate front end followed by a mildly and short-lived bitter aftertaste. The beer is malty, but not too thick. The tastes become more pronounced as the beer warms so it I would suggest drinking the beer at between 45-50 degrees.

Mouth Feel: 1.8/2.0 - The stout is very smooth and malty with an excellent combination of fresh and thick. The beer is drinkable, but has enough body that any stout lover would appreciate it fully. The head is creamy and long lasting adding the overall enjoyment of drinking the beer.

Pairing - Young’s Double Chocolate Stout would go well with any lightly seasoned meat served with a fresh side. An ideal meal would be a rare steak served with a light salad.
